We have studied the magnetic anisotropy on a single crystal of the new heavy-fermion compound CePd2AI 3. The magnetic moments lie in the hexagonal (a, b)-plane, but do not order antiferromagnetically, in contrast to annealed polycrystalline samples. The Kondo effect can account for the large specifi

β¦ Synopsis
We present an experimental study of the structural and magnetic properties of various polycrystalline samples of the new heavy-fermion antiferromagnet CePd2AI3, T N = 2.7 K. The relevant energy scales of the Kondo effect and crystal-field splitting are determined by comparing them with nonmagnetic LaPdzAl 3. The critical dependence of the magnetic properties of rare-earth heavy-fermions on sample preparation is discussed using Doniach's Kondo lattice model.
Recent studies, by several research groups, of cerium-and uranium-based intermetallic compounds, crystallizing in ternary (dis)ordered variants of the hexagonal CaCu 5 structure type (the so-called '1-5 compounds') have greatly enriched the field of heavyfermion (HF) physics. These studies culminated in the discovery of two new HF superconductors, UNi2AI 3

We have investigated the pressure dependence of the antiferromagnetic transition temperatures TN for CePd2A13 and CePdA1. Although the T N of both compounds are almost equal at ambient pressure, the pressure dependences are different; T N of CePd2A13 initially increases at a rate of 0.3 K/GPa, then
We present magnetic, electric and thermal properties of SmCuA13. An antiferromagnetic transition is observed at 7 K. The hysteresis loops exhibit both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic properties at low temperature. SmCuA13 displays large specific heat C(T) values at low temperatures. The specific
