## Abstract Sera from patients with Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) were examined for antibody titres to cytomegalovirus (CMV), EpsteinβBarr virus (EBV) and herpes simplex virus (HSV) types 1 and 2 by four techniques: indirect haemagglutination (IHA), complement fixation (CF), virus neutralization (NT) and i

β¦ Synopsis
The present study has investigated whether Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) in Nigeria is associated with infection with the AIDS virus variously called human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 111 (HTLV-III), lymphadenopathy/ AIDS virus (LAV), and AlDS-associated retrovirus (ARV). Serum samples from 40 KS patients, 30 patients with malignant melanoma of the foot (contemporaneous controls), and 50 normal nontumour-bearing controls were tested for anti-AIDS virus antibody by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) . The assay consistently and reproducibly failed to show seropositivity in all the patients and controls. These results show that Kaposi's sarcoma in Nigeria is not associated with infection with the AIDS virus and that the virus is not endemic in this region.

## Abstract Kaposi's sarcoma is classified into 4 types: classic (sporadic), African (endemic), iatrogenic (transplant recipients), and epidemic (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome [AIDS]βassociated). This article aims to feature a comprehensive review of nonβAIDS Kaposi's sarcoma, including litera
Prior to the AIDS epidemic, Kaposi's sarcoma (non-AIDS-KS) in Europe was mainly a disease of elderly Mediterranean men. In 1989 AIDS data from 15 European countries were collected to study proportional trends in AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma (AIDS-W) in order to determine whether specific factors in
## Abstract Angiogenesis is thought to play a major role in the development of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS), considered by many to be a hyperplastic disorder caused in part by local production of inflammatory cytokines. The antiangiogenic effects of protease inhibitors, in particular ritonavir, have been
