Geol. Survey, Bull. 8o5A, 1-I5, 1928) has studied the reported occurrence of platinum in the black sand of the state of Washington. A total production of approximately 7.5 ounces of platinum from that state has been reported. Profitable exploitation of the deposits is difficult since they lack uniformity in occurrence and in metallic content; and the expense, involved in mining the raw material and then treating it, is too great.
