โฆ Synopsis
Optical rotatory dispersion messurementa on mehchrornatic heparin: dye complexes have revealed Cotton effects in the absorption region of the hound dye which are dependent upon the "native" integrity of the heparin molecule and upon the dye to site ratio, that is, the dye array. According to the recent idess concerning induced Cotton effecta in external chromophorea hound to helical polymers, heparin, a muwpolysaccharide, appears to exhibit helical secondary structure.

Ultraviolet optical rotatory dispersion curves of mucopolysaccharides exhibit particular Cotton effects in the spectral region of the It-x and T-T amide transitions. Two general patterns emerge: (I) enhancement of negative rotation and of the first negative Cotton effect (troughs 217-220 mp) and (2)
