✦ Synopsis

The FTIR spectra of expanding jets of carbon monoxide have previously been shown to exhibit an intensity anomaly between corresponding P branch and R branch transitions that is most pronounced for small values of the rotational quantum number. The anomaly has been re-examined as a function of location within the expanding jet and of the size of the volume observed. The results wnfm the existence of the anomaly, and are consistent with an analysis which recognises that the field of view of the spectrometer does not have a uniform well-defined absorbance.
