โœฆ Synopsis

The heat capacities of small spherical clusters of atoms arc calculated in the harmonic a for clusters of up to 55 atoms. The heat capacities do not take the expected form C( 2') =A T B proximation * BTS. The heat capacity per atom is not monotonic in the number of atoms.

The vibrational entropies of small clusters of atoms have been calculated for clusters of 13 to 87 atoms in both cubic and hexagonal close packed arrangements. The entropy per atom is not a monotonic function of the cluster size and shows a maximum around 40 atoms and a minimum in the range 50-80 at

## By means of alternating current calorimetry and X-ray diffraction, a study has been made of the phase transition behavior of graphite-ICl intercalation compounds slowly heated from 290 to 340 K. The heat capacity vs. temperature plots exhibit A-type anomalies at 305 f I, 312 5 1 and 315 + 1 K.
