✦ Synopsis

We report tic-magnetization measurements M(T,H) on a single crystal of YB%Cu307 ~using a SQUID magnetometer. From the M(T,H) data we determined the lower critcal field Hc~(T ). For'both orientations of, the field, Rarallel and perpendicular to the c-axis, we find remarkable anomalous enhancements of H~'z(T) and H~(T) for T < 40K compared to the behavior expected from the data for T > 40K.

A simple technique is described for the control and determination of the oxygen stoichiometry between 6.95-5.83 of pure deoxygenated YBa2Cu307\_ ~ (YBCO). By studying samples prepared using this method, two anomalous properties, namely ( 1 ) the step-like increase of the c-axis length of the crystal
