Abstract
The anomalous frequency non‐coincidence effect in strongly interacting liquids (ω~iso~ < ω~IR~) was interpreted in terms of non‐resonant splitting caused by short‐range interparticle repulsion. The shift of the in‐phase component of the split lines was found to depend mainly on d__s__~i~/d__Q__~j~, the derivative of the vibrational displacement of the __i__th atom with respect to the normal coordinat of __j__th vibration. For molten potassium thiocyanate, the numerical estimations agree well with the experimental data.
