✦ Synopsis

While the anodic oxidation of 1,4_dimethoxybenzene itself has been extensively investigated, ' little information is available on the generality of the reaction in substituted 1,4- dialkoxybenzenes" and naphthalenes. Our need for an economical, general route to quinone bis-and monoketals prompted us to investigate the preparative anodic oxidation of substituted 1,4-dimethoxyaromatics.
