✦ Synopsis

Anodic dissolution of AgPd alloys in 12 M LiCl is being investigated using Auger electron spectroscopy and coulometry for the determination of Pd surface enrichment. Under steady state conditions Ag dissolves selectively in alloys containing < 5 Y0 Pd, while both components dissolve in stoichiometric proportion in alloys > 10% Pd. Initial surface enrichment of Pd occurs in both cases, the degree of enrichment decreasing with increasing Pd content. Pd in the alloy may dissolve at potentials below those observed for the owe metal. A arocedure for the determination of surface excess from Auger depth protiles taking into accoint sputtering'effects is described.
