✦ Synopsis

Fracture mechanics is pressed to make new strides as technology advances to the development of usespecific materials by considering details at the molecular and nano scale level. This calls for an integration of science and engineering. Malfunction of devices arising from interaction of chemical reaction and mechanical effect not included in design should be better understood. More advanced topics such as surface reaction, aging of materials, degradation of nano-materials, etc., also require a consulted effort of the university researchers and industrial engineers to interact, exchange ideas and make recommendations on what needs to be done.
