## Abstract We present an extremely simple formulation of inelastic incoherent neutron scattering from impure crystals. The formulation treats both mass and central‐force‐constant changes at the defect site in a closed form which is immediately amenable to an experimental analysis.

## Abstract It is suggested that the broad neutron groups observed in inelastic neutron scattering and in relation with structural phase transitions can be explained by the finite triple axis spectrometer resolution combined with an important energy anisotropy of the lower dispersion branches. The
