✦ Synopsis

A theoretical model is presented for the energy levels of x electrons near the Brillouin zone boundary in a pyrocarbon. An approximate calculation of the magnetic anisotropy can then be performed and a general formula is derived. Comparison with experimental results yields satisfactory values for the parameters representing neighbouring carbon atoms.
