✦ Synopsis

Measurements of electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility have been performed on CePdIn and UPdIn single crystals with a hexagonal Fe2P-type structure.

For the two compounds, the transport and magnetic properties along the a and c-axes are significantly anisotropic and characteristic

, suggesting the remarkable effects of anisotropic hybridizations of 4f or 5felectrons with ligand s, p or d-electron states.

In the course of our research on new Kondo compounds, we have found that both CePdIn and UPdIn with a Fe2P-type structure display some interesting properties reflecting the hybridization of f-electrons with ligand s, p or delectrons.

CePdIn is an antiferromagnetic heavyfermion with TN=l.8 K (1) and specific heat n versus temperature ratio of C/T=700 mJ/mole*KL at 70 mK (2). On the other hand.

UPdIn is a magnetic heavy-fermion with double magnetic transitions(3,4).

Below TN=21 K, a c-axis modulated structure with the propagation vector lk=(0,0,0.4) appears, which changes into a square-up structure below 8.5 K (5). The ratio C/T reaches 280 mJ/mole*K2 at 1.5 K (3,6).
