β¦ Synopsis
The anisotropy of the photoelectron emission from an oriented polyethylene is found and the correlation benveen the experimentai results and the known calculated band structure is discussed. The preparative method of ultra-thin oriented polyethylene films and their properties are also reported briefly.

The photoemission spectrum of polyethylene was measured in the vacuum ultraviolet resion. The h&best energy of the v&Ice band, 8.5 eV, and the band gap energy, 8.0 eV, obtained are compared with the resuits of theoretical calculations by other authors.
A light-scattering method for determining the optical anisotropy of large molecules is considered in detail. An application of the method is demonstrated to linear polyethylene while isothermally crystallizing in p-xylene solution. The polyethylene crystals formed are characterized as anisotropic th
