Abstract
We propose a spaceโtime adaptive procedure for a model parabolic problem based on a theoretically sound anisotropic a posteriori error analysis. A spaceโtime finite element scheme (continuous in space but discontinuous in time) is employed to discretize this problem, thus allowing for nonโmatching meshes at different time levels. In this paper we present a tetrahedron-based, h-reยฎnement-type algorithm for the solution of problems in 3D gas dynamics using unstructured mesh adaptation. The mesh adaptation algorithm is coupled to a cell-centred, Riemann problem-based, ยฎnite volume scheme of the MUSCL type, employing an approxim
In the multi-dimensional numerical simulation of certain multi-phase fluid flow processes, many phenomena are sufficiently localized and transient that self-adaptive local grid refinement techniques are necessary to resolve the local physical behaviour. A numerical model is developed for the simulation of moving interfaces in viscous incompressible flows. The model is based on the finite element method with a pseudo-concentration technique to track the front. Since a Eulerian approach is chosen, the interface is advected by the flow through a fixed
The character of convection-dominated, singularly perturbed boundary value problems requires their special numerical treatment in order to guarantee stability and resolve existing layers with acceptable accuracy. In addition to discretization methods particularly developed for this aim, recently mor
