โœฆ Synopsis

The partition of the heat loss from housed pigs between convective, radiative and evaporative processes has been computed from the basic environmental variables of ambient air velocity, temperature and humidity.

The net heat loss from the pig has been compared with its total heat production in the comfort zone. The results are reasonable and in accord with observations of pig reaction to varying environments.

A general principle is put forward which specifies the environment having maximum potential for production. The principle is extended to deduce the productive potential of any other environment.
