✦ Synopsis
The X-ray scattering intensities of liquid water observed by Narten and Levy have been reanalyzed, especially in the region 7-16 A-' of the scattering parameter. The intensities in this region are accounted for as an interference pattern due to the OH...0 hydrogen bond with anharmonicity. The Morse anharmonicity parameter is estimated to be 1.9 f 0.8 A-', which is nearly equal to those observed for ordinary chemical bonds. The distance and the root-mean-square amplitude are determined as 2.91 kO.02 A and 0.17 k 0.01 k respectively.
