✦ Synopsis
The angular dependence of scattering in solrit ioiis of boviiie liver glutamate dehydrogenase was studied in 0.2N Xa-phosphate biiffer, pH 7 , 10-'d/ EDTA, and in buffered solutions saturated with either toluene or benzene. Whereas the shape of the scattrring curves is in qualitative accord with the previously reported polymerization to rodlike linear striictures, quantitative agreement between the calculated and experinieiital curves is poor when the polydispersity (*orisistent with the associatioii mechanism (derived frcm rnoleciilar weight determinatioris by light scat teiiiig and equilibrium sedimentation) is properly taken into accoiint. The nieasuremeiit of rotary frictional coefficients of m:tcroscopic models of linearly ociated glritimate dehydrogenase oligomers allowed the c:ilciilatioii of iiit iiiisic viscosities of enzyme solrit ions but did not, permit. discrirniilatioii, by hydi~odyiiamic mealis, betneeii syjtems with diffei, eiit distribritioiis of leiigth
