β¦ Synopsis
Insulating and underdoped Bi 2Γz Pb z Sr 2 Ca 1Γx R x Cu 2 O 8ΓΎy Γ°R ΒΌ Pr; ErΓ (Bi2212) has been studied by photoemission spectroscopy and compared with La 2Γx Sr x CuO 4 (LSCO). The lower-Hubbard band of the insulating Bi2212 shows a stronger dispersion along the underlying Fermi surface than that of undoped La 2 CuO 4 : The flat band at kBΓ°p; 0Γ is found to be deeper in Bi2212 than in LSCO. These observations suggest that the magnitude of the next-nearestneighbor hopping jt 0 j of the single-band model is larger in Bi2212 than in LSCO.
