โœฆ Synopsis


Angle-resolved photoelectron spectra taken with synchrotron radiation are presented for monolayers of uracil and thymine adsorbed on Cu( 110). Applying dipole selection rules within the molecular C, symmetry the a' and a" symmetry species have been experimentally determined in the photoeleclron spectra. The valence orbital assignments are compared to MO calculations. In the monolayer regime the uracil and thymine molecules are found to adsorb with their molecular plane perpendxular to the Cu( 110) surface.
