Angiotensin II has previously been reported to have in vivo and in vitro cardiac hypertrophic effects. We used the salt-sensitive Dahl rat genetic strain to separate mechanical (pressure overload) vs. hormonal (renin-angiotensin system) input in cardiac hypertrophy. Blood pressure was significantly
