the age of 86. Anders Ha ˚rd was an internationally renowned and influential color expert, who promoted color research on the basis of phenomenological and psychological phenomena. In the early 60s, he started his research about how the human beings perceive color. The aim was to develop a universal language to denote and describe colors. The unique approach-his phenomenological way of looking upon colors-made it possible for him to verify theories that Ewald Hering had published almost hundred years earlier. He played a noteworthy and highly successful role in the development of the Natural Color System (NCS). The system became a national Swedish standard in 1979.
