Ah&@-The thick cylinder under non-axisymmetric loads was treated by means of the stress function method. This p~icu1~ problem was aIso analyzed by using fhe ANSYS finite element program and the KALNINS shell program. It was found that the stresses conveniently obtained by the stress function method are in very good agreement with those by the ANSYS and the KALNINS. In terms of engineering time and computer cost, the stress function method is far superior to both the ANSYS and the KALNINS. Finally, for fatigue analysis of the non-~isy~e~icaily loaded thick cylinder, the detailed computer stress analysis is needed to calculate the correct peak stresses.
