The vi acetylenic CH stretch of the propargyl radical (HCCCH2) near 3322 cm-' has been observed by infrared laser kinetic spectroscopy at Doppler limited resolution. Propargyl is prepared by flash photolysis of propargyl bromide or propargyl chloride at 193 nm and its transient infrared absorption p

✦ Synopsis
The K-subband structure of the acetylenic CH stretch fundamental, n 1 , of propargyl radical, CH 2 CCH, has been assigned and analyzed. The K Å 0, 10, 1/, 3, 4, 5, and 6 upper state energies totaling 109 levels could be accurately fitted with Watson's fourth-order A-reduced Hamiltonian. The K Å 2 subband was perturbed with the level crossing between N Å 17 and 18.

The first high-resolution infrared spectra of the unstable molecule vinyl alcohol are reported. The spectra have been obtained using a new precursor, 2-chloroethanol, which when pyrolyzed at 1050°C gives strong infrared spectra of vinyl alcohol free of interfering hydrocarbon absorption bands.
