✦ Synopsis

A theoretical analysis is presented which describes the nature of the pressure field associated with a fuel droplet burning in an oxidizing atmosphere in the flame sheet approximation. In parallel, considerations are also directed towards a simpler but equivalent planar diffusion flame, and approximate analytical solutions are given in both cases for the profiles of composition, temperature, velocity, pressure and density. Although total pressure variations are indeed small, it is found that pressure gradients can be appreciable in limited regions near the droplet surface and the flame sheet. The velocity is found to exhibit a maximum away from the droplet surface for the numerical case considered herein. The main goal has been to resolve an apparent inconsistency in the set of describing equations, and a satisfactory answer to this question is presented.
