✦ Synopsis
In this Paper the compatability between a three parameter fit, which assumes a normal density distribution of critical currents, and the familiar empirical two parameter law (V= ~/n) is demonstrated by applying them both to the analysis of data obtained in the characterization of a Nb-Ti standard reference material supplied by N BS. Data taken at temperatures of 4.24 and 2.21 K are used to illustrate that the three physical parameters obey general scaling laws and to outline the physical interpretation which is derived for the empirical parameters. The validity of flux flow in high current density materials being characterized by defect motion with the flux line lattice is demonstrated.
