โœฆ Synopsis

In this paper a simulation analysis of fatigue crack propagation was carried out in order to investigate the delaying effects of overload on fatigue crack propagation. The analysis was based on the Dugdale hypothesis, but the method of analysis used here is the extended body force method, which has been developed recently by the authors and is applicable to a wide range of problems. Based on the results anaiysed the retardation of crack propagation due to overloads was discussed quantitatively. The results of simulation analysis were compared with the experimental data obtained by other researchers.

## Abstmct-A stochastic model is presented, describing fatigue crack growth under random overloads and incorporating the situations of fracture occurrence either under an overload or under the base-line load. It is a variant of an earlier model, based on presentation of the delay time as a purely

A new model of fatigue crack propagation is proposed which takes the effect of cyclic stress ratio into account. In the model it is assumed tbat the fatigue cmck propagation rate is proportional to the absorbed hysterisis energy per stress cyck at the tip of a crsck. The energy is calctdated from st
