✦ Synopsis
Six bands forming the (2-v^{\prime \prime}) progression of the third positive system ( (b^{3} \Sigma^{+}-a^{3} \Pi), transition ) in the spectrum of the CO molecule have been photographed at a high resolution. The leastsquares method according to the Curl-Dane-Watson procedure was used to individually fit the wavenumbers of the rotationally analyzed strongly perturbed bands. Merged terms of the common upper (v^{\prime}=2) level have been obtained, taking their covariances and variances into account. Accurate parameters of the (b^{3} \Sigma^{+}(v=2)) state as well as parameters of perturbing levels of the (a^{\prime 3} \Sigma^{+})state (i.e., (v=40) to (v=46) ) were calculated from merged terms by the weighted leastsquares fitting. ๔ 1993 Academic Press.
