The eigenfunction expansion variational method (EEVM) is proposed to determine the stress intensity factors for two-dimensional cracked bodies. In the new method, the undetermined coefficients in the truncated eigenfunction expansion form are determined by using the variational method. It is expecte

โฆ Synopsis
Abatraet-In this paper, the t&e-dimensional problem of a cracked plate with nonuniform thickness is transformed into an equivalent two-dimensional anisotropic one. Then, the stiffness derivative method (SDM) for a cracked plate with uniform thickness is developed into an advanced stiffness derivative method (ASDM) for a cracked plate with nonuniform thickness to solve the stress intensity factor (SIF). Furthermore, it is proved that the stiffness matrix of an element with constant taper is the same as that with uniform thickness, if the thickness at the centroid of the former is equal to that of the fatter. Finally, a set of numerical results and curves showing the rules of stress intensity factors varyins with different plate half taper angles and crack 1eng&s are given.
