✦ Synopsis

From the published spectra of states of Rb, that lie within 35 cm-' of the 5 'S,,* + 5 2P,,, dissociation limit it has been possible to derive the complete potential energy curves for the lg state (correlated to ' llE at short internuclear distance) and for the novel 0; 'pure long-range' state, predicted by ab initio calculations. Reliable values of dissociation limit constants ~1~ and C, are derived and compared to the predictions of theoretical works.
