Abstract
An atomic model has been proposed to analyze scattering problems by a dielectric cylinder of arbitrary cross section. The advantages and differences from the usual method of moments are: (1) the field exiting an atom is that due to all the sources other than that atom, (2) the causeβandβeffect relationship is clear and no singularity occurs, (3) various scatterers, from dielectrics to conductors, can be handled, (4) dielectric scatterers mixed with conductors can be treated, (5) all the information about the inhomogeneity of the scatterer appears only on the diagonal of the matrix, and (6) the theory smoothly connects with the atomic theory, which is educationally desirable. The simple analytical formula for description of the scattering of ultrashort laser pulse with the shape of the Meyer wavelet by atomic system is obtained. The dependence of the scattered pulse shape as a function of the system spectral width is discussed.
The validity of the independent atomic model (IAM) for x-ray scattering, which assumes that each atom in the sample scatters independently of the others, was examined for materials and irradiation geometries where interatomic and intermolecular cooperative e β ects are expected to provide a non-negli
## Abstract Total Xβray scattering intensity Ο~ee~(__q__) is very sensitive to electron correlation effects. In this study Ο~ee~(__q__) of N~2~, CO, and N~2~O have been computed by the coupled cluster singles and doubles (CCSD) method and compared with configuration interaction singles and doubles
