✦ Synopsis

The description of agglomerating populations with particular emphasis on small populations has been presented in the framework of product densities developed in two earlier papers[l, 21. It is shown that the adequacy of the standard population balance equation hinges on the largeness of the population which depends on the nature of the agglomeration kernel. The complete set of product density equations for an agglomerating system has been identified and analytical results have been obtained from some ultra-simplified situations. More realistic situations have been analyzed by a simulation technique due to the authors [5,6]. Three different agglomeration kernels have been employed to demonstrate the role of the nature of the kernel in the aforementioned results.
