Abstract
A simple‐cubic lattice of identical, magnetodielectric spheres exhibiting double‐negative (DNG) behavior is analyzed. An analytic expression for the threshold loss angle δ~th~ of the spheres, above which DNG behavior is extinguished, is derived by utilizing the Möbius transformation. The formula is valid for either dielectric or magnetic loss exhibited by the particles, and is derived based on the dipole approximation of Mie's theory of scattering by a sphere. For spheres with equal real relative permittivity and permeability, it is shown that δ~th~ increases as particle volume fraction increases. It is also shown that the loss angle of the effective medium can be controlled by appropriate choice of frequency. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. case. The beamwidth is inversely proportional to the directivity. It can be noted that the cross-polarization pattern can be divided into two ranges. One range is within the main beam and the other is beyond the main beam. Within the main-beam range, the crosspolarization level increases as the dire
## Abstract In this report, we describe the fabrication of a chiral metamaterial based on a periodic array of Y‐shaped Al structures on a dielectric Mylar substrate. The unit cell dimensions of the Y‐structure are ∼100 μm on a side with 8 μm linewidths. The fabricated Y‐structure elements are chara
