This study has shown that a discontinuity the tee-junction in . this example behaves as a source in the array, and it can significantly decrease the sidelobe level if its position is well chosen. This shows that exact knowledge of its behavior is essential. In this case, the radiation of the discontinuity has a positive effect since the sidelobe level is reduced. But in other cases, its effect can be negative, and could involve increasing the sidelobe or cross-polarization levels, for example.
