โœฆ Synopsis

Classical plate theory has been used 1o filrd out irrterfacia/ stress ir2ze12sity factors itt composite laminates. By using a well-known relation beiween the crack-tip energy release rate and tire complex stress imensiO' factor, a closed-form solution for complex stress irrtensin' in terms o.f external loading arrd a mode mix parameter for fairly general composite laminates is given. Then a procedure for determining this mode mix parameter is presented, followed by numerical results.for" some laminates. Small scale contact condition is expressed 07 terms of external loadhzg, In particular, a symmetric proper O' of interJaciaI toughness curve is proven. Finally, the accuracy of failure load predicted by elhTffnat#Tg oscillation index is discussed, and an example is presented to show the ralidity and lhnitation o[ the /3-----0 approximation.

## At&r&-A finite element method with virtual crack extension technique is employed to find the weight function of the stress intensity factor for a cracked composite laminate. Since the weight function is load independent, once it is obtained, the stress intensity factor of a cracked laminate sub
