โœฆ Synopsis

Scales relating to the concepts self, day hospital and patients at the day hospital were administered to 40 patients admitted to the day hospital. Twenty patients were then subjected to a routine admission psychological battery, while 20 matched patients were not so tested. Semantic Differential Scales were then readministered to all 40 patients. Tested patients showed significantly greater change than nontested, with tested males showing greater change than tested females. Change waa greatest for the concept self. Change was not generally uni-directional, although tested males did attribute significantly greater potency to the self and significantly lesser potency to other patients than did non-tested males. Tested patients valued the day hospital and patients at the day hospital lower than non-tested patients, although this difference achieved significance only for female patients.

Wind erosion depends on the ease with which particles can be detached from the soil surface, but suitable tests to characterize this property are not available. Two possible methods to determine surface soil strength in the field were therefore compared on a range of artificially 'crusted' surfaces.
