โœฆ Synopsis

This paper deals with the steady-state and harmonics analysis of a thyristor-controUed reactor (TCR) with source reactance. So far, the analysis reported in the literature assumes that the voltage across the TCR branch is sinusoidal and there is zero source reactance. However, this assumption is not true in most of the cases owing to the presence of source reactance which causes a non.sinusoidal voltage across the TCR branch, ultimately generating higher harmonics. Comparisons have been made between the results available in the literature for ideal cases and those obtained in this paper for non-ideal cases. The practical implications of including source/ transformer reactance in the TCR characteristics in the steady state are discussed. Harmonics generated by different configurations of the TCR are also compared and presented. In brief, the analysis presented here demonstrates the effects of source reactance on the overall performance of the TCR.

The batteries discussed are lithium batteries. The preparation of the anodes, which are composed of highly conductive carbonaceous material grains coated with a glassy or graphitized carbon layer, comprises applying a precursor of the carbon layer to a powdered carbonaceous material and sintering at
