✦ Synopsis
A differential kinetic analysis of the esterification of 1-butyl alcohol with hydrobromic acid in the range of variables: 1.5 M < [alcohol] < 2.5 M, 5.5 M < [acid] < 7 M and 70°C < T < 90°C has been carried out leading to a simple model: R = k; h[alcohol] -k;[water] where, k; = 1.31 x 10s exp (-97.2/RT) and k', = 4.02 x 10' exp (-44.5/RT). The proton activities have been correlated by the expression: h = 1OC u+~@id)l, through the measurements ofthe Hammett acidity function. An integral kinetic model has been developed for this kind of segregative reactions, which includes the change in the volume of the reactive phase and the solubility of the 1-bromobutane in the aqueous phase. The initial mole number as reference for the reaction rate and the dimensionless extent for the progression of the reaction have been used in the integral kinetic model. This model seems to be useful in the analysis and modelling of segregative liquid-liquid reactions. JNTRODUmJON
