Analysis of some aspects of physical aging in amorphous polymers

The physical aging in amorphous polymers is phenomenologically discussed on the basis of selected experimental facts. Physical aging is considered as an independent relaxation process. Using a general scaling hypothesis, a consistent picture of physical aging is presented, in which the experimental facts are discussed. The corresponding mode lengths vary between 0.4 nm (characteristic for local modes) and about 2.0 nm (characteristic for the proper glass transition).
