The author found that in rats muscle atrophy to a degree may be present on both sides of a paramedian muscle-splitting incision, indicating that it is not only section of the nerve elements that are its cause, but also the extensive reorganization process.
Another fact of interest is that it was found that skin sutures need not be removed early in order to avoid cutting the skin.
This book should be of interest to all surgeons who operate on the abdomen.
