✦ Synopsis

An X-ray Diffraction Refinement of the Crystal Structure of Natural Stellerite, Ca(A18Sies)0,e 28 HaO An X-ray diffraction analysis was performed on a single crystal of natural stellerite, (Ca3.ssN~o.3sKo.osMgo.oe)tot. 4.06 (Al7.88Feo.o~)t~t. =7.97Si28.o2O7, . 38.25 H,O, orthorhombic, Fmmm, a = 13.625(2) 8, b = 18.284(1) A, c = 17.860(2) 8. 2 = 4, V = 4446.77 As. Refinement of 1400 independent reflections yields R = 0.0429 (R, = 0.0479). The Si(A1)-0 bond distances are determined with a precision of 0.002-5 A. The framework of stellerite is topologically the same as stilbite 4-4-1.

Hydrotalcite and hydrocalumite are two close minerals belonging to the layered double hydroxide family. Both structures are based on positive brucite-like layers alternating with layers containing anions and water molecules. Most of synthetic ðLDHsÞ are hydrotalcite-like materials. On the other hand
