โœฆ Synopsis

A data bank containing ninety points from four different sources was constructed to check the accuracy of the currently used forced convection heat transfer coefficient correlations.

These data points were carefully selected to be representative of conditions that exist for the condensers used in multistage flash evaporators.

The prediction errors for seven commonly used correlations were determined with this data bank.

Only the analogy correlation of

Petukhov and Popov adequately predicted these data; the other correlations underpredicted these data, especially at the high Reynolds number range encountered in cross-flow multistage flash evaporators. ## Abstract A numerical analysis based on adjoint formulation of unsteady forced convection heat transfer is proposed to generally evaluate effects of the thermal boundary condition on the heat transfer characteristics. A numerical solution of the adjoint problem enables us to predict the heat tran
