✦ Synopsis

The addition of bromine to isophorone (I) in CC14 gives a solid white precipitate, originally reported 2.3 to be the normal Br2 addition product (II), which readily loses a mole of HBr in the presence of moisture to give a product assumed to be 2-bromoisophorone.
