Three new products of ring D cleavage of 38-acetoxy-5a-androst-14-en-17-one with alkaline B 0 2 2 were isolated and chemically identified. Ring n in 17-keto steroids is susceptible to cleavage by reaction with hydrogen peroxide, peracids or similar reagents. Reaction of 38-acetoxy-5a-androstan-17-on
