β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
A case is presented of a young female insulinβdependent diabetic (IDDM) patient who required continuous hospitalisation over a two year period for factitiously produced ketoacidosis (DKA). Her instability resolved after implantation of an insulin infusion pump as well as psychiatric therapy. Eighteen months later, however, she presented with recurrent severe hypoglycaemia, also shown to be factitious. She again resolved, and over nine years of subsequent followβup she remains well with nonβproblematic glycaemic control.
