โœฆ Synopsis

The proper orthogonal decomposition theorem is used in an ``optimal'' modal reduction of a frictionally excited system. The chaotic dynamics are exploited in obtaining a basis that broadly represents the system's dynamics. This basis is used in a Galerkin's approximation to reduce the system order. The reduced model is validated using qualitative and quantitative means and also from the occurrance of bifurcations. The results conยฎrm the validity of the method and expose the beneยฎts of using proper orthogonal modes rather than the linear natural modes of the system.

A method is presented for direct disturbance cancellation with an optimal regulator for a vibration isolation system with friction. As an example, a DC servomotor is considered as an actuator. The analytical expressions for the control method are first derived. Results of experimental tests are also

A non-linear system can often have multiple attractors. In this case, it is important to study the global behavior of the system by determining the global domain of attraction of each attractor. This paper is concerned with the global behavior of an harmonically excited spring-pendulum system with i
