โœฆ Synopsis

A series of technical composite suspension polymerized poly vinyl chloride products with additions of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (Levapren 450M, 45 wt % VAcl have been investigated with NMR. Partial compatibility is found in these samples, and the phase conditions have been shown to be very much dependent upon the methods of forming of the materials. Complete phase separation is observed after prolonged heating.

To obtain a correlation among structure-morphology-mobility-compatibility properties of poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (EVA)/poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) blends, we have used scanning electron microscopy and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance in our investigations. A series of polymer blends of commercial poly(viny1 chloride) (suspension-polymerized powder) and an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA with 45 w t % VA) containing 2-10 wt % EVA were prepared by mixing at room temperature (0) and by milling at 160ยฐC for 15 min (I) and then heat treated at 170ยฐC
