β¦ Synopsis
This paper points out that the two solutions of the stress intensity factor (SIF), one of which is false, are obtained for the same problem when the cracks below the interface interact with the cracks above the interface and vice versa. Therefore, care must be taken to solve the problem of interaction between cracks lying both above and below the interface. On the other hand, the method to choose the correct solution is simultaneously presented and finally several illustrative examples are solved. The results show some specific characteristics of these problems.
