β¦ Synopsis
An ionic nickel(II) phosphate templated by ethylenediamine, (C 2 H 10 N 2 )[Ni(H 2 O) 6 ](HPO 4 ) 2 , has been prepared by hydrothermal synthesis and characterized by single-crystal di4raction data and spectroscopic techniques. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2 1 /c with a β«Ψβ¬ 6.226(1), b β«Ψβ¬ 16.241(2), and c β«Ψβ¬ 14.778(2) A > , β«Ψβ¬ 91.28(1)3, V β«Ψβ¬ 1493.9(4) A > 3 , and Z β«Ψβ¬ 4. The structure consists of isolated Ni(H 2 O) 6 octahedra and HPO 4 tetrahedra, both of them hydrogen-bonded to ethylenediammonium cations. The compound has been characterized by IR spectroscopy, showing the bands characteristic of the (HPO 4 ) 2Ψ anions and the ethylenediammonium cation. Diffuse re6ectance measurements indicate the presence of octahedrally coordinated Ni(II) ions. The D q (835 cm Ψ1 ) and Racah (B β«Ψβ¬ 900, C β«Ψβ¬ 4040 cm Ψ1 ) parameters have been calculated for the Ni(II) ions in octahedral sites.

Two new iron phosphates have been prepared hydrothermally and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The structure is composed of isolated anionic chains of the tancoite type, [Fe(HPO 4 ) 2 OH] n , consisting of vertex-sharing Fe-O octahedra. The chains are isotypic with those in the ir
